Daryl Price

After a long career as a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, I started painting in 2005 after contracting a neurological disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I consider my artistic ability a God given gift that helps me cope with the pain of my illness.

The subject matter of my work consists primarily of jazz and blues musicians in scenes from 1930/40’s America. African American history has always played a big role in my work though I use no visual reference when I paint. My vision is based in realism with an emphasis on bright colors, movement, and an occasionally use of distortion for effect. My self-taught techniques and knowledge of human anatomy from bodybuilding, create a unique signature style that I hope gives other people a sense of the joy I feel from painting.
