What you're doing now, or have done in the past,

need not determine what you can do next and in the future.

Throughout my educational life I struggled with memorizing. It was frustrating because so much of secondary education emphasizes it . And to add insult to injury, if you were not gifted with a good memory, the educational system believed you were either lacking in intelligence or lazy. What the teachers tended to overlooked was how much extra work was required to overcome poor memory skills. This became evident when I returned to public schools after going to military school for three years. Public high school had class sizes two to three times the size of what I was accustomed. And as an additional challenge I returned mid term and would have to catch up in all of my classes. A daunting challenge at best.

My father subtly gave me one of his cameras to shoot family gathers and parties when I was young. Though he never criticked the resulting pictures, I saw years later why he continuing to encourage me. And when he found out that the local newspaper hired photo stringers to shoot high school sports, he “suggested” I look into it. ‍ ‍
